…then do it!
Almost a year ago I was thinking of applying to the Future Leaders Program. I didn’t really have a very good idea what working in Ministry would be like, so I talked with John McGowan before applying.
He gave me a lot of great advice, but one that really stuck out to me was this: If you can do anything else and be happy, do it.
Ministry is not easy. The problems and the hardships are not worth it if you can be just as happy doing anything else.
It’s amazing advice, and I think it’s one of the best ways to determine if you are called to work in ministry.
Just looking at the last few days I’ve had, I’ve worked 26 hours in two days. I’m not making much money at all, and I’ve got college loans to pay. I’m being pulled in several directions and I’m under a lot of stress to get things done. Ministry is not easy.
But I love it. I would not be happy doing anything else.
To me it’s pretty simple. This is what I want to do with my life. I wouldn’t have it any other way.
The difference is, in ministry your work is eternal. In business you are generally just making some other dude RICH by all your long hours and hard efforts.
1 Corinthians 15:58
Therefore, my dear brothers, stand firm. Let nothing move you. Always give yourselves fully to the work of the Lord, because you know that your labor in the Lord is not in vain.
