Sometimes self-assesments hurt. It can be of yourself, your ministry, your church…anything. If you look at an area that you’re not doing to great in it has a way of deflating you.
This is especially true if you thought that you were doing a good job in that area. Then it really can come as a rude awakening.
However, if you don’t confront it and deal with a small amount of pain, then you’re never going to grow.
We’re reading Transforming Church by Kevin Ford in Future Leaders right now and there are definitely some areas that we are not doing so great at. Granted there are a lot of areas that we are doing well in, and most churches and organizations have areas that they could improve in, but you can’t really rationalize away things as an excuse not to confront the issues.
A good leader is self-aware and knows what they need to work on to get better. It’s important to take an honest look at yourself, even if it hurts.
