I realized something today.
I read a lot of blogs.
Like, a lot. Probably upwards of 100. Each day I probably read on average 30 posts. Who knows how much time I spend doing this?
I also realized, as I was realizing that, that I spend far more time reading blogs than I read the Bible.
You don’t need a seminary education to figure out that that’s probably not a good strategy for ministry.
So….I’m taking a two-week or so break from blog reading. Hopefully this will allow me to find renewed joy in reading the Scriptures, and hopefully bring me to a place where I can limit the intake to a healthy amount.
I won’t stop writing blog posts, just reading them. I don’t think the writing is a distraction. Just the inordinate amount of time I spend reading them.
I think everyone has at least one thing that tends to draw them away from time in God’s Word. For some it’s TV. Others it’s movies or videogames. Mine happens to be reading blog posts.
Of course, these things are not bad in themselves. But when they draw our attention away from where it should be, we should reconsider our use of them.
Feel like being vulnerable?
Bummer, my next post was going to be about you. I guess you’ll never know….
Probably spending time with my roommates and whatever they are doing, whether it be TV or goofing around on the computer, in the kitchen, outside, etc. It’s hard to pull myself away from that sometimes to go get some quality time in the Word.
I saw that you commented on someone’s blog today via facebook…haha. Does that mean i caught you breaking your creed? Just trying to hold you accountable
Thanks for the pic and e-mail today.
Haha…to clarify. I’m not being legalistic about it
If someone sends me a blog to read I’ll read it. It’s more about avoiding the time-pit that is Google Reader…I just checked, and I have 205 unread posts on that. I bet it will be up to 1000 by the time I’m done
