A different kind of company

I think it’s interesting how the shift from a print/broadcast society to a digital society is playing itself out in business. One of the main things I see is a desire to have fun and be a little irreverent.

Point in case below:

Don’t see it? Check out #43 on the list.

I think that having this kind of attitude is important in today’s digital culture.

Is that really a sale?

I saw the following “sale” a while ago at a store that shall remain nameless.

I find it interesting how putting a big red sale tag on it can completely blind people to the fact that it’s only four cents less than the original price, therefore causing people to buy it who probably wouldn’t have bought it otherwise.

I don’t think I’d call it deceptive marketing, but it’s close.

Of course, I think sometimes we’ll put flashy exteriors on things (ministries, events, organizations) that really haven’t changed at all on the inside. Not sure if that’s a bad thing, but you have to wonder sometimes if the ends justify the means.

Food for thought.

New Site: Let There Be Blog

So my friend/co-worker Michael Sanders is one of the funniest people I know. His blog is also one of the funniest blogs I know.

Unfortunately, he hadn’t written in about a year. So when he came to me asking if I could help put together his site I jumped, hoping that it would lead to new blog posts by this incredibly creative individual.

The site itself is a site to behold.

If you’ve got a big monitor, check out some of the goodies hidden off screen. The man is crazy.

Also, be sure to read up. I guarantee you’ll be laughing your head off.

(Also, I’m aware of the major faux pas involved in having a blinking header, but hey, it fits in with the flying unicorns with machine guns, so deal with it ;))

Free Friday/Music Monday: The Ember Days

Ok, so I missed Free Friday because I was on the Frontline Fall Retreat (awesome time), so I figured I’d do a two-for-one today.

I’ve been a fan of The Ember Days for a few months now, ever since I discovered their free EP over at NoiseTrade.

Anyhow, their new EP “Finger Painting” is out and you can download it for free at http://comeandlive.com/downloads. It’s got a wonderfully atmospheric feel to it. Most of the songs actually don’t have any lyrics, but the music itself is fantastic enough to make it worthwhile. The last song of the EP, “Simple Song”, is fantastic musically and thematically while still having, as the title suggests, simple (but powerful) lyrics.

Anyhow, check them out!

New Site: The Refrain

So a month or so ago I designed a new blog site for my friend Lauren. Lauren has a very distinct style, and I wanted to capture that with an elegant and simple blog design.

Anyhow, this was fun because it was a departure from my normal style and it allowed me to try some new stuff. You can check out her blog at www.thegreatestrefrain.com and let me know what you think!
